Kidzcan believes whole-heartedly that every child suffering with cancer deserves the right to the fight for survival.  We are a Zimbabwean Private Voluntary Organization that is committed to increasing the survival rate of children in a loving and caring environment.

 Kidzcan volunteers play with the children in the hospital playroom every weekday morning. Play is what a child does best, and we find this a valuable tool for distracting them from their illness, loneliness, and pain.

 In addition, Kidzcan provides support in the form of:

• Funding diagnostic testing, including MRIs, X-rays, CT scans that are required by the doctors to make accurate and timely diagnoses and follow ups.
• Sourcing and paying for chemotherapy drugs and associated medications.
• Providing blood products when required by our cancer patients.
• Donating high protein food supplements  for those children in particular need.
• Implementing an nationwide education and outreach programme to increase the knowledge of the early warning signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and the assistance that Kidzcan provides.

 Nationally, we are advocating for children who suffer with cancer. We know, without a doubt,  that early diagnosis results in children having a much better chance of survival.  With this in mind, Kidzcan launched a nation-wide awareness and sensitization campaign about the early signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and the services that Kidzcan provides.  We are now in our third year, and can see direct results in the increased number of children being referred.

We walk the journey with the families. In addition to this financial backing and outreach, Kidzcan hosts weekly parent support meetings to help parents cope with the immense crisis they are going through.  We are on the wards daily liaising with families and doctors and service providers for each child.   Providing families with the means and tools to fight their child’s cancer is absolutely necessary, but actually it is hope that we want to foster, and ultimately make a reality for these parents. We want to change perceptions about childhood cancer. We want people to know that children can survive cancer.

 Kidzcan believes in a compassionate world where children with cancer are given the chance to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.  Kidzcan is giving the gift of the “right to the fight” for survival of cancer.
